Nashville...round two!

I find myself back in Music City for another year (at least!) to pursue a Masters degree in Reading Education at Peabody. This was a decision that I spent a lot of my senior year at Vanderbilt debating, pondering, feeling excited and nervous about, and emailing about (don't get me wrong, I love Peabody, but they sure can make a girl jump through a lot of hoops). After a week and half of classes and some visiting with friends who are teaching in their own classroom, I am THRILLED to still call myself a student and am very excited to study and learn about Reading Education and what it takes to be a Reading Specialist or Literacy Coach at a school. I love the schedule of being a student and the delay of "real life," and I really do love learning. I am confident that this extra year of school is going to make me better prepared to teach a class of my own one day.

I don't know where my plans will take me after this year, but I do know that I love Nashville, I love many of the people who are still here, and I will certainly consider it as a home base as I begin to think about finding a teaching job in the spring. Though I think that this year is going to be incredibly busy, quick, and intense, I am excited to approach Nashville from a different perspective: from the eyes of a graduate student with friends who are also in school or who are working. I'm excited to discover new favorite places, explore all the spots that my neighborhood has to offer, and get to know the people who have stuck around better as well as meet new people. I'm so thankful to have my friend and roommate, Madeline, here to embrace this new chapter of our lives with me and for my sister to be around as well

Here's to a year of new adventures in a city I love!

Until next time,
Grace
